A balanced chemical reaction is the reaction having same number of all the constituent atoms on both sides of the reaction arrow.

A redox reaction can be balanced using the half reaction method. In this method, the redox reaction is first divided into two half reactions that is oxidation and reduction.

To balance a half reaction, first the atoms other than hydrogen and oxygen are balanced. After balancing the other atoms, H2O molecules are added to balance the number of oxygen atom. In the acidic medium, hydrogen ions H+ are added to balance the number of hydrogen ions. After balancing all the atoms, charge is balanced by adding electrons.
