The consequences of an extra copy of chromosome 21 (Down syndrome).
Introduction:
Non-disjunction is the failure of separation of chromosomal pairs during the anaphase stage of cell division. The non-disjunction results in extra copy of one chromosome in one gamete and no copy of chromosome in the other gamete. The most familiar example of non-disjunction is Down syndrome, which results from the presence of “extra copy of chromosome 21”.
