Chapter 15, Problem 7DQ
Summary Introduction

To review:

The mechanism which regulate the alternative splicing of Robo3 during midline crossing. Also explain the functioning of Robo 3.1 and Robo 3.2 in mediating the midline attraction and then repulsion.

Introduction:

Slit proteins are an important chemorepulsive group of molecules, which help to cross the midline, opposite to the side of the CNS. These proteins are secreted by the midline cells. The specific receptors for the slit proteins are identified as Robo (Roundabout) proteins (Robo1, Robo2 and Robo3). The migration of growth cones of pathfinding neurons across the midline is prevented by Robo receptors. The different combination of Robo receptors help in lateral positioning of longitudinal tract relative to the midline.
