Interpretation:

A change that occurs to molecules in the process of smelling a meal that is cooking is to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

Sensory cells, known as olfactory sensory neurons, have the ability to smell. These are present inside the nose. Separately, olfactory sensory neuron has one scent receptor.

The molecules which are diffused by the plant or animal source fit into some of these receptors but other molecules like rotten fish, fit into some other receptors due to which the unpleasant smell is experienced and like water molecules do not fit any of these receptors, hence have no smell.
