The region of the basilar membrane that distorts due to endolymph vibration depends upon the sound pitch that created the vibration or the frequency of vibration within the endolymph.
The site of the optimal amount of vibration produced at the basilar membrane by a given pitch can be determined by the help of two factors:
1. The basilar membrane width.
2. The length as well as the diameter of collagen fiber that stretches across the membrane at each level along the cochlear duct
