Chapter 15, Problem 1CC
Using the figure below, describe the stages that may have led to the origin of life.
Expert Solution & Answer
Summary Introduction
To describe: The stages that lead to the origin of life.
Introduction:
The life on earth is evolved from the primitive life forms. According to scientists, there are many theories and experiments which prove the origin of life on earth. The origin may be from biomolecules, DNA or RNA as a genetic material is also considered as the point from where the life begins.
Explanation of Solution
The stages that show the origin of life are as follow:
- The monomers formed by abiotic synthesis are collected in the atmosphere. The collection of molecules may be through the influence of lightening and UV radiations.
- The reason of the formation of monomers is the heat from hot rocks and volcanic activity. Now, the short RNA polymers are formed from the combination of monomers.
- The membrane surrounds the polymers and differentiates between the external and internal environment.
- The replication of RNA polymers takes place through natural selection, in this step. The polymers are influenced and pass to the new protocells
