Given information:

Polynomial $(x^2+x-3)+(3x^2-4)$

Opening brackets,

  $x^2+x-3+3x^2-4$

Here, $x^2$ and $3x^2$ is represented by 1 and 3 blue tiles respectively, $x$ is represented by 1 green tile. -3 and -4 are represented by 3 and 4 red tiles respectively.

  

    $x^2$    $x$    -3        $3x^2$          -4

On solving, $x^2$ and $3x^2$ add, -3 and -4 add, resulting

  

          4 $x^2$        $x$          -7

Result is 4 $x^2$ + $x$ -7
