Question
Chapter 14, Problem 6Q
To determine
How a moist cloth surrounding a metal canteen keeps the water kept inside it cooler.
Expert Solution & Answer
Answer to Problem 6Q
Solution:
Evaporation causes cooling.
Explanation of Solution
Evaporation is a process in which liquid changes into its gas phase. It occurs on the surface of a liquid. The process takes away the heat from the liquid and hence, keeps it cooler. The metal canteen is surrounded by a moist cloth. As the water evaporates, it takes away heat from the canteen. This keeps the water in a metal canteen stay cooler.
