Summary Introduction

Introduction

People make inferences and form impressions of others based on what social psychologists call social perception. Essentially, social perception governs the way we view the people around us, even if we've never met them. Most of us dress appropriately for job interviews or shave and wear cologne for a blind date because we want to make a good first impression. Social psychologists call this the primacy effect. However, even if we fail to make a good first impression, a later impression may be strong enough to overcome this.
