Concept introduction:
A competitive inhibitor resembles the substrate that binds at the active site of the enzyme. Competitive inhibitors are mainly used in making drugs. For instance, during chemotherapy, a drug, named methotrexate is used which acts as a competitive inhibitor. Moreover, if the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the effect of a competitive inhibitor can be reduced.
