Person X has to realize that ERP will cost more than expected. Person X must ensure that customer should be made aware of the truth. Person X as the salesperson can be expected to solve the issue for the customer. Person X could look at the possibility of another customer faced the issue and solved the problem or can look to share the development costs.
Person X can also speak to the manager regarding the possibility of adding cost to the budget for performing the enhancement or helping the customer to pay for the enhancement. Person X overall cannot hide this truth from the customer and selling the software that does not perform the required function is of no use. If Person X does not, it will be unethical and bad for business in the long run. Hence, Person X must find a way to solve the problem.
