To determine:
The types of tests performed on donated blood.
Concept introduction:
The blood donation is an important contribution one can make to save life of others, the blood transfusion is required in patients suffering from hemophilia, accident victims, cancer patients, patients that underwent organ transplant and several other people. Four types of blood products are used for donation plasma, platelets, antibodies and RBCs. Donors can donate whole blood or some blood components.

Explanation of Solution
To ensure that the patient receives a healthy blood several blood tests are performed which include:
Hepatitis B by checking the presence of HBs antigen within the blood, Human immunodeficiency virus by checking for anti-HIV 1 and HIV2 and HIV (
The blood is tested for various diseases to ensure that the patient receives healthy blood and these tests include screening for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, malaria, syphilis and HTLV various other tests can be performed depending on the geographical area from which the donor belongs.
To determine:
The people who should not or cannot donate blood.
Concept introduction:
The blood donation is an important contribution a person can make to the society. Blood donation affects health of both the patient as well as the donor so certain rules and regulations are required to regulate the blood donation.

Explanation of Solution
The people who should not donate blood are:
People affected from diseases such as cancer, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis, malaria and any other disease that can be harmful for the recipient.
People who are below the age of 16 or have weight less than 110 pounds should not donate blood.
The people who have donated blood less than three months ago should not donate blood as it requires three months to bring the blood back to normal amount.
To ensure the good health of patient and donor few guidelines are drawn for the donor that before the donation of the blood these guide lines include no donation of the blood if the patient is suffering from disease such as HIV, malaria, hepatitis, cancer, syphilis or any other disease, or the patient is below 16 years of age and weigh less than 110 pounds
