The organizational structure of cerebral white matter and the function of the fiber groups present in it.

Introduction:

The white matter consists of myelinated axons, also called as tracts and glial cells giving it a distinct color. Historically, corpus callosum (also known as colossal commissure) was identified as the first major white matter containing fiber bundle that was also known to join the two cerebral hemispheres. Later, three different kinds of tracts or bundles of axons came to be known.
