Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Using the internet as a resource and following IR spectrum functional groups should be interpreted.

• • The five peaks appear in the given IR spectrum (Figure 14.17) and corresponding functional group should be assigned.

Concept Introduction:

IR spectroscopy: IR spectrum provides the information regarding the functional groups a compound possesses.  When a molecule is bombarded with radiation of a frequency that exactly matches the frequency of the vibration of one of its bonds, the molecules absorbs energy.

Example:

• • In the IR spectrum, the signal just above $3000c{m}^{-1}$ confirms the presence of  aromatic ring
• • Aromatic compound also produces a series of signals between $1450c{m}^{-1}$ and $\text{1650}{\text{cm}}^{\text{-1}}$ in the IR spectrum
