Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Using the internet as a resource and following reasons has to be explained.
- • The molecular structure for each compound has to be drawn.
- • Each compound increasing polarity has to be explained.
- • The five peak shown in the given chromatogram and corresponding structure has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Chromatography is a technique used for separation of mixture into its individual components. All chromatography has a stationery phase and a mobile phase. Usually the stationery phase will be made of silica gel or alumina. Mobile phase will be a stream of gas or liquid that is moving.
Gas Chromatography: It is involves separation of compounds of the sample under test due the position in between gaseous mobile phase and stationary liquid phase.
GC runs on the principle of partition chromatography for separation of compounds. In terms of stationary and mobile phases it is categorized under gas-liquid type of chromatography.
The organic compounds are separated due to differences in their partitioning behavior between the mobile gas phase and the stationary phase in the column.
Polar molecule: There must be unequal distribution of the negatively charge electrons in the orbitals of the molecule.
The dipole is unequally charged either because of the net electronegativity of the molecule.
