Interpretation:
Whether the oxygen atom of water molecule attracted to cation or anion when an ionic compound is dissolved in water is to be stated.
Concept introduction:
Polarity is the electronegativity difference between the two bonded atoms. If the two molecules are having high electronegativity difference between them then the molecule will be polar. It is based upon the concept of opposite attracts. In water, oxygen being more electronegative attains a negative charge while hydrogen being electropositive attains a positive charge.
