Explanation Conus medullaris is the region where the spinal cord terminates in a conical and a tapering structure. It is inferior to the enlargement of the lumbar region. This region ends at a degree of the intervertebral disc, which is situated in the middle of first and the second lumbar vertebrae in the human adults. The lumbar vertebrae are counted as L1 and L2. Filum terminale is basically terminal filament, which is an extension of the pia mater that runs inferiorly and unites with the dura and arachnoid mater and then further anchors the spinal cord with the coccyx.
