AV City stocks and sells a particular brand of laptop. It costs the firm $625 each time it places an order with the manufacturer for the laptops. The cost of carrying one laptop in inventory for a year is $130. The store manager estimates that total annual demand for the laptops will be 1500 units, with a constant demand rate throughout the year. Orders are received within minutes after placement from a local warehouse maintained by the manufacturer. The store policy is never to have stockouts of the laptops. The store is open for business every day of the year except Christmas Day. Determine the following:
- a. Optimal order quantity per order
- b. Minimum total annual inventory costs
- c. The number of orders per year
- d. The time between orders (in working days)

- A golf specialty wholesaler operates 50 weeks per year. Management is trying to determine an inventory policy for its 1-irons, which have the following characteristics: > Demand (D) = 2,000 units/year > Demand is normally distributed > Standard deviation of weekly demand = 2 units > Ordering cost = $30/order > Annual holding cost (H) = $5.00/unit > Desired cycle-service level = 85% > Lead time (L) = 4 weeks Refer to the standard normal table for z-values. a. If the company uses a periodic review system, P should be 3.87 weeks. (Enter your response rounded to the nearest whole number.) T should be units. But the owner does not place all the store orders and find that this takes much of your time. He estimates that the value of his time spent ordering hammers is $75. a) What must be the unit cost of maintaining hammers for the current policy of the hardware store to be Optimal according to the EOQ model? b) If the distributor delivers an order for hammers in 5 business days (out of an average of 25 per month), what should be the reorder point, according to the EOQ model?arrow_forwardPlease do not give solution in image formate thanku. Weekly demand for HP printers at a Sam's Club store is normally distributed, with a mean of250 and a standard deviation of 150. The store manager continuously monitors inventory andcurrently orders 1,000 printers each time the inventory drops to 600 printers. HP currentlytakes two weeks to fill an order. How much safety inventory does the store carry? What CSLdoes Sam's Club achieve as a result of this policy? What fill rate does the store achieve?Ex:. Return to the Sam's Club store in . Assume that the supply lead time from HP isnormally distributed, with a mean of 2 weeks and a standard deviation of 1.5 weeks. Howmuch safety inventory should Sam's Club carry if it wants to provide a CSL of 95 percent?arrow_forward
- The daily demand for Sunlight paint at the Rainbow Paint Store in East Ridge is normally distributed, with a mean of 26 gallons and a standard deviation of 10 gallons. The lead time for receiving an order of paint from the Sunlight distributor is 9 days. Because this is the only paint store in East Ridge, the manager is interested in maintaining only a 75% service level. What reorder point should be used to meet this service level? The manager subsequently has learned that a new paint store will open soon in East Ridge, which has prompted her to increase the service level to 95%. What reorder point will maintain this service level?arrow_forwardThe Petroco Company uses a highly toxic chemical in one of its manufacturing processes. It must have the product delivered by special cargo trucks designed for safe shipment of chemicals. As such, ordering (and delivery) costs are relatively high, at $2,600 per order. The chemical product is packaged in 1-gallon plastic containers. The cost of holding the chemical in storage is $50 per gallon per year. The annual demand for the chemical, which is constant over time, is 2,000 gallons per year. The lead time from time of order placement until receipt is 10 days. The company operates 310 working days per year. Compute the optimal order quantity, the total minimum inventory cost, and the reorder point.arrow_forwardKVS Pharmacy stocks a popular brand of over the counter flu and cold medicine. The average demand for the medicine is six packages per day, with a standard deviation of 1.2 packages. A vendor for the pharmaceutical company checks KVS’s stock every 60 days. During one visit, the store had eight packages in stock. The lead time to receive an order is five days. Determine the order size for this order period that will enable KVS to maintain a 95% service level.arrow_forward
- An electronics retailer wants to develop an inventory policy to achieve 99% chance of not getting stockouts for a chip. The daily demand for the chip is estimated to be Normal with mean 200 and standard deviation of 20. They count the chip inventory every 2 weeks to place an order, and it takes 11 days for the ordered chips to be delivered. The retailer operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are going to implement an order-up-to model. A) What base stock level should they choose? B) What is the number of chips they would have on order (on average)? C) When they checked their inventory of chips to place a new order, they found that they ran out of stock completely. In addition, they have 10 chips on way to be delivered, while there are five customers who paid for 20 chips in total and are waiting to receive their chips. How many chips should the retailer order?arrow_forwardPalin’s Muffler Shop has one standard muffler that fits a large variety of cars. The shop wishes to establish a periodic review system to manage inventory of this standard muffler. Use the information in the following table to determine the optimal inventory target level (or order-up-to level). Annual demand 2,750 mufflers Ordering cost $ 35 per order Standard deviation of daily demand 6 mufflers per working day Service probability 76 % Item cost $ 28.00 per muffler Lead time 4 working days Annual holding cost 22 % of item value Working days 275 per year Review period 21 working days a. What is the optimal target level (order-up-to level)? The demandfor bolts is fa irly constant; on the average, the manager, MichelleWu, has observed that the hardware store sells 500 of these boltseach day. Because the demand is fairly constant, Michelle believesthat she can avoid stockouts completely if she orders the bolts atthe correct time. The effervescent wine costs $9 per bottle and is served only in whole bottles because it loses its bubbles quickly. Ben figures that it costs $25 each time an order is placed, and holding costs are 40 percent of the purchase price. It takes six weeks for an order to arrive. Weekly demand is 144 bottles (closed two weeks per year) with a standard deviation of 40 bottles.
