Case summary:

A patient, age 12 years has 7 months history of repeated sudden edema or swelling of tongue, lips and eyes. It is not itchy or shows any urticaria but lasts for 1-3 days. There was no associated respiratory distress as well.

Characters in the case: Morgan Boyd, the patient under evaluation and his elder brother Stephen.

Adequate information: Morgan was not taking any medication or was not showing any drug allergies. But it is known that Stephen also showed same symptoms at the age of 16 years. They were diagnosed of hereditary angioedema (HAE) based on the results their blood investigations. Complement components were checked through the edema episodes and non-edema phases. C1INH quantitative and qualitative measurements were made.
