Interpretation:
The function of the regulators on the air tanks by scuba divers is to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Scuba diving is underwater diving with the help of scuba. Scuba is a self contained underwater breathing apparatus. This apparatus has air tank which containregulators.

Answer to Problem 117A
The function of scuba diving regulator is to decrease the pressure of air in the air tank according to the requirement.
Explanation of Solution
The reduction of air pressure is done in two stages:
First stage:
At first stage, pressure of air is reduced to intermediate pressure and released into a hose which shifts into second stage.
Second stage:
At second stage, pressure of air is reduced to ambient pressure so that diver can breathe comfortably. It also allows air to flow to the mouth only when the diver inhales.
Thus, the function of regulator is to decrease the pressure of air in the air tank in the scuba diving as per the requirement.
