Concept introduction:

The release of various chemicals from the cell that alters or regulate the response of neurons to neurotransmitters. The substances that alter the response of neurons are called as neurotransmitters and the process is called as neuromodulation. For example, some neuromodulators are nitric oxide and endocannabinoids.
