Introduction: The spinal cord and the brain make up the major part of the central nervous system. The spinal cord is a tube-like structure that begins from the medulla oblongata of the brain stem and extends toward the lumbar region of the vertebral column. It consists of 31 segments and 31 pairs of spinal nerves.
