Concept introduction:
The band theory is used to explain hardness, electrical conductivity, melting point for different metals. It can be explained as a theory related to set of MOs that have very less energy difference between them. These sets of MOs also known as bands.
In semiconductor band, bonding MO is termed as valence band while antibonding band is termed as conduction band. When doped semiconductor has less electrons than pure semiconductor then it called p -type semiconductor while when doped semiconductor has more electrons than pure semiconductors then it termed as n -type semiconductor.
