Chapter 12, Problem 12.26P
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Charge balance equation of acetate in solution of Na+CH3CO2 that consists of [Na+] as 0.1 M has to be written.

Concept Introduction:

Prior to representation of a systematic equilibrium, two equations namely charge balance and mass balance equation are written. Net amount of charges or mas inflow or outflow are depicted with the aid of charge balance while mass balance is a reflection of law of conservation observed for mass.

Charge balance equation indicates sum of charges on one side of an equation has to be balanced by sum of charges on opposite size. This is essentially the principle of electro neutrality.

A generalized form of charge balance equation is written as follows:

  p1[C1]+p2[C2]+p3[C3]=q1[A1]+q2[A2]+q3[A3]

Here.

p denote respective charges on cations.

q denotes respective charges on anions.

[C] denotes concentration of cations.

[A] denotes concentration of anions.
