The viscosity of ethanol has to be compared with that of ethanol and glycerol.

Concept Introduction:

The unique property of liquids is fluidity which is absent in solids.  Fluidity refers to movement of molecules from one place to another.  Liquids as we know are not static. They are dynamic in movement that they move from one place to another.  The phenomenon of “flowing” is called fluidity.

Viscosity is the measure of resistance to fluidity.  It is also known as viscous force.  A liquid is said to be highly viscous if it hardly flows.

Greater the strength of intermolecular force in a substance, greater will be its viscosity.
