Concept Introduction:A flexible manufacturing system (FMS), as the name indicates, has a high degree of flexibility to quickly adapt to changing patterns of manufacturing so as to be able to produce a large variety of dis-similar items.Such systems, normally, consist of many computer controlled equipment which can be quickly reprogrammed for changes.

A queue is formed wherever there is a set of service providers and a set of service receivers−whether human or machine. Whatever are the rate of arrival of the service receivers and the servicing rate of the providers; sooner or later there will be either a queue of receivers or there will be unutilized providers. This concept has been researched mathematically to develop algorithms for various situations.
