The citric acid cycle is otherwise known as the tricarboxylic acid cycle or TCA cycle. In this cycle, the acetyl-CoA is oxidized to form adenine triphosphate (ATP). The TCA cycle occurs in the mitochondria. This cycle is essential to other biochemical pathways.
