Question
Chapter 11.2, Problem 11.1QC
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Name and molecular formula of given
Concept Introduction:
Alkane is a long chain of carbon linked with only single bond between each carbon.
Naming of alkane depends on principal long chain of carbon as ‘eth’ is used for chain containing 2 carbon.
‘Prop’ used for chain contains 3 carbon and so on and ‘oct’ used for 8 carbon chain.
Formula of alkane is Cn H2n +2.
Where, n is number of carbon atom.

Problem 10-6
Dimethylamine, (CH3)2 NH, has a molecular weight of 45 and a boiling point of 7.4 °C.
Trimethylamine, (CH3)3N, has a higher molecular weight (59) but a lower boiling point
(3.5 °C). Explain this apparent discrepancy.
PROBLEM 3-11
Draw a graph, similar to Figure 3-9, of the torsional strain of 2-methylpropane as it rotates about
the bond between C1 and C2. Show the dihedral angle and draw a Newman projection for
each staggered and eclipsed conformation.
