Question
Chapter 1.1, Problem 4MI
Summary Introduction
To determine:
One specific question that a biologist may seek to answer while studying diversity of life, diseases, new technology, agriculture, and environment.
Introduction:
Biology is defined asthe science of life, which involves the study of living organisms and the factors affecting them. The study of living organisms is a very broad topic. It involves many specialized fields, which cover the morphology, anatomy, physiology, origin, behavior, distribution, evolution, and phylogeny of living things.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
- Diversity of life- It deals with the study of different varieties of life existing in the entire globe. It also deals with the study of an evolutionary relationship among organisms, their adaptation and classification. Hence, while studying diversity, one could read about the comparative anatomy of organisms.
- Disease- This topic involves the study of different diseases, their cause, prevention, mode of infection, and ways to cure them. So, while studying diseases, one can seek information about the causes and prevention of diseases.
- New technologies- It deals with the innovation of new tools and techniques and improvisation of the existing ones. People who study new technologies may seek information about different techniques for early detection of life-threatening diseases, such as cancer.
- Agriculture- It deals with the study of crops and the factors affecting them. Nowadays, the use of insecticides and fertilizers is one of the greatest focus as they harm the environment and human health as well. A person studying agriculture may focus on finding different means of organic farming and reduction of pesticides and other harmful chemicals.
- Environment- In biology, the study of environment is mainly focused on determining the impact of abiotic factors on the survival of an organism. Global climate change is a topic of concern for today’s world and the effects of pollutants are also a major point to be considered while studying climate changes. So, environmentalists may focus on finding how to reduce pollution and the protection of animals in this changing climate.
