Concept explainers
To Explain: The hikers carrying a heavy backpack lean forward.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
The average position of the weight of the object is considered as the center of gravity. It can be said that, a point where the whole mass of the body is concentrated is known as center of gravity.
Backpack shifts the center of gravity of hiker in the backward direction of his body. This may cause the falling of the hiker towards the back. Leaning forward helps to balance the position of center of gravity and keeps the hiker away from falling.
Conclusion:
Thus, a hiker carrying a heavy backpack lean forward because the center of gravity is adjusted by leaning forward.
