Concept explainers
Why does a washing machine vibrate violently if the clothes are not evenly distributed in the tub?
To explain: The reason for the violent vibrations in washing machine if the clothes are not evenly distributed in the tub.
Answer to Problem 37A
Due to disturbance in center axis clothes starts turbulence and machine starts vibrating.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Disturbing the spinning axis creates an uneven revolution of objects around. This creates wobbling.
When the Center of Gravity is not along the spin axis, wobbling will occur. This creates turbulence in the tub. That is why, when clothes are not distributed evenly in the tub, their spinning axis gets disturbed and the washing machine vibrates violently.
Conclusion:
Due to disturbance in the spinning axis, turbulence occurs and the uneven distribution of clothes creates wobbling in the machine and it starts vibrating.
