Introduction:

The cerebral cortex is responsible for providing higher brain functions such as interpretation of impulses from sense organs, initiation of voluntary muscular movements, storage of information in the form of memory, and using the information in reasoning.

The cerebral cortex is also responsible for intelligence and personality. When the parts of the cerebral cortex in the frontal and temporal lobes join with the hypothalamus, thalamus, and basal nuclei, they form the limbic system.
