Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The magnitude of the transition moment has to be estimated.  The transition moment has to be sketched as a function of $R$.  The reason as to why the intensity of a charge transfer transition falls to zero as $R$ approaches $0$ and infinity has to be stated.

Concept introduction:

An atom undergoes transitions from the initial state to final state on interacting with an electromagnetic wave of a particular frequency.  The electric dipole moment which is associated with the transition from an initial state to a final state is termed as the transition moment.
