Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The transition moment ${\displaystyle \int {\psi }_{\text{f}}x{\psi }_{\text{i}}}\text{d}x$ has to be evaluated.

Concept introduction:

Electromagnetic waves have the capability to induce oscillating magnetic or electric moments.  If the difference in energy between two eigen states ${\psi }_1$ and ${\psi }_2$ is the same as the frequency of the electric or magnetic moment induced by the electromagnetic waves, then the atom and the electromagnetic field possess the same frequency and this amplitude of magnetic or electric moment is known as the transition moment.
