Concept introduction:

  • Lewis dot structures show the bonding between atoms of a molecule and lone pair of electrons that may exist in the molecule. 
  • This structure can be drawn for any covalently bonded molecule and coordination compounds. 
  • A single bond is formed by sharing of two electrons, double bond by sharing of four electrons and triple bond by sharing of 6 electrons. 
  • The atoms contain higher valence electrons are drawn first and then the least valence electron containing atoms are drawn.
