Concept introduction:

Line structures are compact like condensed structures. In the line structures, carbon atoms and the hydrogen atoms attached to them are not drawn explicitly. In the condensed formula, the nonhydrogen atoms are written explicitly and are followed by the number of hydrogens attached to them. A covalent bond is assumed to be present between adjacent nonhydrogen atoms. Multiple methylene groups are written using the notation (CH2)n.
