Given info: The length of swimming pool is (10.0±0.1)m and the width of swimming pool is (17.0±0.1)m and the width of the side walk is (1.00±0.01)m and the thickness of the sidewalk is (9.0±0.1)cm .

The length of the side walk in long side is,

l1=17.0m+1.00m+1.00m=19.0m

The total length in small side is,

l2=10.0m

Formula to calculate the volume of rectangle in long side is,

V1=l1×b×h (1)

Here,

b is the width of sidewalk.

h is the thickness of sidewalk.

Substitute 19.0m for l1 , 1.00m for b and 9.00cm for h in the equation (1).

V1=19.0m×1.00m×(9.00cm)(102m1cm)=1.71m3

Thus, the volume of rectangle in long side is 1.71m3 .

Formula to calculate the volume of rectangle in small side is,

V2=l2×b×h (2)

Substitute 10.0m for l2 , 1.00m for b and 9.00cm for h in the equation (1).

V2=10.0m×1.00m×(9.00cm)(102m1cm)=0.90m3

Thus, the volume of rectangle in small side is 0.90m3 .

Write the expression for total volume of the concrete needed,

V=2(V1+V2)

Substitute 1.71m3 for V1 and 0.90m3 for V2 in the above equation.

V=2(1.71m3+0.90m3)=5.2m3

Thus, the total volume of concrete required is 5.2m3 .

The uncertainty of the volume is the sum of uncertainty in each dimension.

The total length with uncertainty in the long side is,

l1=(17.0±0.1)m+(1.00±0.01)m+(1.00±0.01)m=19.12m
