Write a letter in response to the program's director explaining what you can do and what kinds of students would be appropriate and minimizing any negative news.
You are an alum of Wallace State Community College. You currently work as the assistant director of Smiles, Inc., a local nonprofit organization. Recently, Wallace State's Professional Development Program Director, Mr. James Smith, contacted you to ask if you would be willing to provide an internship for current students at WSCC. These students would be in their last year at WSCC who are participating in the program, which requires a professional-development course and an internship. They would represent a wide range of majors. If you agree to particiate, your internship opportunity will be listed on the program's internship webpage as one of the options the students can pursue.
You are willing to provide the internship. You can offer 15 hours a week to someone who would be willing to help with marketing, public relations, social media advertising, and general office tasks. The intern would assist in writing grant proposals and perhaps presenting reports orally and in writing to the organization's board of directors. What you cannot offer, though, is financial compensation. You're a nonprofit organization that is not, nor is ever likely to be, in a position to pay an intern.
