Question

I would like some feedback on my self-care essay. I know everything is not cited correctly just yet (or I may not even need to cite my textbook) but there are a few paragraphs/words I wrote and rewrote to try to see which flowed best.

Abstract:

Self-care should be a priority, not a luxury. Prioritizing self-care, and, more importantly, implementing it into your everyday life is crucial for a successful and happy lifestyle.

Physical

I practice physical self-care by eating healthy / taking care of my body, receiving regular medical care, exercising, getting massages to help relieve stress, taking some ‘me’ time, and getting enough sleep. Although, I need to work on taking more “me” time before the stress gets to be too much.

It has taken me to get to the point of exhaustion for me to finally take a break from whatever it is that is causing me physical stress. **figure out where you need to put this**

Psychological

Psychologically I practice self-care through therapy in the form of singing and writing music. I have found that when I write music or perform that in itself brings me comfort. Nevertheless, I need to practice asking and receiving help from others; this is something that I believe everyone can struggle with and could be a societal issue. We as a society may sometimes perceive that asking for help or struggling makes us weak. When in fact, this is what makes us stronger. Nonetheless, I know that asking for help when I need something is one of the things that I will continue to work on.

Emotional

From an emotional standpoint, I will wither cuddle up with my dog to help alleviate some of my stress or watch a funny movie. Whereas what I need to work on emotionally include positive affirmations, self-love, and reminding/telling myself that I am worthy. I think that everyone, especially nowadays amid a pandemic, needs to work on their emotional self-care. This is something that we tend to become abeyant about, when in fact, is a huge part of living a happy, healthy life.

Spiritual

In a spiritual sense, I will sing/write music, go outside and get fresh air, or do some quick yoga. However, I need to work on making meditation a priority again. A few years ago, I met with a monk who helped teach me meditation practices and different breathing methods. As they were very helpful then, over time I stopped implementing these practices in my everyday life as it got more hectic. I want/need to make meditation a priority again in my life.

Personal

Personally, I sometimes will go out and get coffee with a friend, cookout and/or bake, and sometimes make short/long-term goals. However, in my personal life, I want to actively try to go out with my friends more. I could also try to implement vision boards into my personal life so that I can better visualize the things I want to accomplish and further help to set these goals.

Professional

Whereas in a professional sense, I want to make time for my schoolwork while actively trying not to overwork/overwhelm myself with too much work at once. Therefore, one of the ways I can better practice self-care is learning how to better balance my school and social life, so I am not so stressed out.
