Work Life V. Real Life In today’s changing technology and demanding world there are various challenges that managers encounter in finding an effective work life balance such as stress, deteriorating health and Exhaustion. However, to be effective and successful it is imperative that I create a balance between my personal and professional life while developing strategies to curtail tension for employees and effectively achieve balance within their lives. “While it is unrealistic to expect that work life- balance be equal in hours spent at work and at play, setting priorities and avoiding fruitless drains on free time help to ensure a healthy balance” (Comstock, 2019) Maintaining a successful work life balance is critical, hence I must ensure that I understand my purpose to effectively separate my professional and personal life and make certain that they do not encroach each other. “The choice and successful pursuit of a profession is but one tool for achieving your purpose. But without a purpose, life can become hollow” (Christensen,2010). Time management, prioritizing and creating a schedule are effective strategies that must be created for managers and employees to successful achieve work life balance. It is imperative that work-related activities are completed within the schedule working hours and this can be successful accomplish by creating a professional and personal schedule. Personal related activities such as family dinner, church and exercising must be given the same energy and effort as target and meetings. “Time management experts say that the first step to successfully developing a work-life balance is to schedule leisure time in the same way that work time is planned” (Comstock, 2019) Prioritizing is essential for managers and employees to complete all tasks as it allows concentration on things that are critical and vital so that attention can be given later to lesser tasks. Nevertheless, it is important not to take home work or answer the work telephone and emails within your schedule personal time. “To make the most of leisure time, work-related phone calls and electronic message should be postponed until work hours unless an employee is paid to be on call”. (Comstock, 2019) When the need arises for overtime within my department, I make certain that we work the maximum of four hours, to prevent overtime, I effectively monitor employee’s performance and ensure that they not wasting time. I encouraged my team members to schedule time to exercise and spend quality time with families and friends to reduce stress and guilt which are contributory factor to physical and mental health challenges. “A lack of recreation and family time creates stress and guilt and can contribute to both physical and mental health problem”. (Comstock, 2019) To become a successful manager, it is essential for me to execute the created strategies to empower employees through coaching, training and development which will enable them to have a work-life balance that will increase production, motivation, and collaboration. Additionally, ensuring that the aims and objectives are clearly defined and that the resources are provided to accomplish targets “Clarity about their purpose will trump knowledge” (Christensen,2010).
