Question

Why Pancillin G is more potent than Nafcillin sodum and Methicillin sodium?

Expert Solution
Step 1

A bacterium is a cell, complete with a cell membrane primarily made of lipids. It also contains cytoplasm, DNA, and proteins. So, the antibiotic drugs, including penicillin, prevent bacterial infection by interfering with the microorganism’s ability to construct its protective cell wall. Antibiotic drugs rupture the cell wall and spill out cell components of the bacteria.

Step 2

Penicillin G is also known as benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a wide variety of Gram-positive bacterial infections such as pneumonia, strep throat, meningitis, gonorrhea, syphilis, necrotizing enterocolitis, diphtheria, gas gangrene, anthrax, leptospirosis, and tetanus. Certain Gram-negative organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Leptospira weilii are also sensitive to Penicillin G.
