Why did the Iconoclast emperors believe that using images in worship was wrong?
In the period between 717 to 780, a group of rulers known as the Iconoclast emperors ruled the Byzantine empire and rejected the use of idols in religious worship. A large number of Christians within the area of the Eastern Mediterranean adopted the practice of using icons throughout the 4th and 5th centuries to assist them in praying. The Christ and other saints who emerged in Christianity were depicted in paintings that were considered icons. Many Christians, on the other hand, were against utilizing various icons in prayer.
