what to reply to this discussion post? My candidate is myself and I am running for the KISD Independent School Board. I was a student in the KISD school district since elementary school giving me a great perspective into what changes need to be made to help our students. I looked at the election for the board in 2022 which takes place in Bell County. This race was for the Trustee Place #1 position and was between Brenda J. Adams and Gerald F. Dreher with Brenda J. Adams winning the seat. The majority votes (for Ms. Adams) were 3,909 while Dr. Dreher (minority vote) received 1,637. The number of registered voters that did not vote was 201,616. The number of activatable voters/winnable voters was 215,740. Since this is a nonpartisan race, I looked at both candidates characteristics and issue areas to determine who I would closely relate to, if this was my race, to understand what precincts I can focus on and which ones to avoid. Ms. Adams is a woman candidate, has experience in education through her college degree as an adjunct professor at Central Texas A&M and by previously being a principal at a middle school in KISD. She is also African American, is from Killeen, and her campaign focused on building community and putting children and their education first. Meanwhile Dr. Dreher is an older white man who before running was an orthopedist. He also ran on the issue of making sure KISD was putting the education of students first but had no experience himself in the school district or in education. I think I more relate to Ms. Adams since I also identify as a woman, have gone to public school in Killeen and also want to focus on keeping kids engaged and focused in the classroom. She also seems to lean more to the left which I as a candidate would as well. This made me study precincts where Ms. Adams was close to winning or who won big but had a lot of undervotes as places that I could potentially focus on. In precinct 212 Ms. Adams received 53 votes and Dr. Dreher received 46 votes. This precinct has 1187 voters. She just barely won this district but there are 1,088 voters that did not vote. This precinct is also in the more populated part of the Killeen/Harker Heights area where most of the schools are located. I think this makes this a perfect area for my campaign to do GOTV and find more voters that would be favorable to me. Another one would be precinct 216. There are 3,342 registered voters but only 130 voted for Ms. Adams and 143 voted for Dr. Dreher. There is a lot of untapped potential here with the 3,549 votes that did not vote. Every other area around this precinct voted for Ms. Adams making me think that with a little more advertising, more support could be found. One other precinct I would go to is 202. Ms. Adams received 106 votes while Dr. Dreher got 98. There are 4,700 voters in the precinct. Since she just barely won I would want to go there and ensure I could drum up more support for myself from the 4,496 people that did not vote. Some precincts that I would not go to are precincts 414 and 415 because Ms. Adams already won by a lot of votes compared to Dr. Dreher. In precinct 414 registered voters are 4,652. Ms. Adams got 119 votes while Dr. Dreher got 27. In precinct 415 with 3754 votes, Ms. Adams received 120 votes while Dr. Dreher got 39 votes. This makes me think that I would also be able to received a higher number of votes if my campaign is similar to Ms. Adams without putting as many of my resource's there. I also would avoid precinct 110 because it is a rural area with very low voter turnout compared to other precincts and it went to Dr. Dreher in this election. He received 8 votes while Ms. Adams received 3 with 3,818 people registered. Compared to other precincts that have more registered voters and that occupy more populated areas with people more affected by the school board, an area such as this does not seem as important to spend my resources on to garner support.
