Note: Three trials will be done with each of the sample used.
1. Prepare three test tubes and place 8 ml of water in each. Take the temperature
of water and record as initial temperature.
2. Weigh all samples first starting with the peanut (remove the skin) followed by
the peanut shell then the corn grain. Use 0.1 – 0.4 gm sample. Do not use more
than .04 gm sample. ( Note: use the same weight for all sample. Decide the
weight you desire following the range given).
3. Mount the peanut on the pin stuck in the cork.
4. Ignite the peanut with a match and place it below the tube.
5. Burn the material as quickly as possible. Reignite if necessary.
6. Immediately, after the material has burned, measure the maximum temperature
of the water when it stops rising. Record as final temperature.
7. Repeat procedure 4 using the second and then third tube to complete the 3 trials.
8. Repeat the same procedure using the peanut shell then corn grain.
