Pericles was a Greek citizen who lived from 495 BC to 429 BC. He was a renowned politician and also served as the general of Athens. He is often said as the first citizen of Athens. He has a significant role in the politics of the Greeks. The Greeks fought several important battles in his times such as the Greco-Persian wars and Peloponnesian wars.
The period between 461 BC to 429 BC is known as the "Age of Pericles." Such was the impact of this man in the politics and administration of the Greek Empire.
There are several other fields in which Pericles made a significant contribution. He was very fond of arts and literature. Under his supervision, Greece became the center for the development of arts and literature. Education was also promoted in Greece in the fields of politics, philosophy, arts, astronomy, etc.
