The majority of the world's nations follow democracy, and voting rights are considered a significant right of the citizens. All countries allow citizens older than 18 to participate in the democratic process by polling their votes. It was not always been like that. There have been restrictions on some people from voting since countries did not recognize them as first-class citizens. In the past, it was evident that women and black people did not have the right to vote until 1869. The fifteenth amendment made sure that it is unconstitutional to prohibit or discriminate against any citizen the right to vote based on race, color, or previous slave status. And it took some more years for women's voting rights, and the 19th amendment of 1920 outlawed the deprivation of voting rights based on sex. It took some more years for minority women to get the right to vote.
