Cori cycle is a series of enzyme catalyzed reactions occurring in muscles and liver. Under anaerobic conditions, the pyruvate synthesized in skeletal muscle is converted to lactate. The lactate synthesized in the skeletal muscle is transported to the liver through the blood. In the liver, lactate is converted to glucose and stored as glycogen. The stored glycogen is broken down to release glucose molecules and the released glucose molecules are transported to skeletal muscles to meet energy demand. The reactions which starts from pyruvate in the skeletal muscles and ends up in glucose in the liver is known as Cori cycle.
