Introduction

Yugoslavia came into existence post World War I in 1918 under the name, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. Prior to it, the territories were part of the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires. In 1929, its name was changed to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Post-World War II, the country became a republic changing its name to the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia in 1945. In 1963, the country was renamed again as the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
