According to the American colonies of the 1600s and 1700s, would some parts of America be safer today if the citizen protected themselves, similar to the "town mobs" in the colonial times? If so why or why not?
In the early 1600s, the British established the Chesapeake Bay Colony (Jamestown) in 1607, the French created Quebec in 1608, and the Dutch began their interest in what is now New York. In another generation, the Plymouth Company (1620), the Massachusetts Bay Company (1629), the New France Company (1627), and the Dutch West India Company (1621) began sending thousands of immigrants, including their families, to North America. Successful colonization is not inevitable. Instead, interest in North America ceased, but so did global competition between European powers to exploit these lands.
There is another important point to remember: The invasion of territory controlled and inhabited for centuries by Native Americans in the European colony and North America (and other areas known as the "New World"). Strictly speaking, Native American control and settlement on that land seemed different from the European vision. However, Native American groups saw the arrival of Europeans as an invasion, and they took many measures to counter that invasion.
