In Molecular biology, the nuclear receptors can be defined as the ligand-regulated proteins triggered by the steroid hormones for responding to extra and intracellular signals. The nuclear receptors are internal receptors that are found in the cytoplasm of the cells. These nuclear receptors are targeted by ligands which are small and hydrophobic compounds, as the hydrophobic ligands are capable of crossing the bilipid plasma membrane of the targeted cells. Additionally, the nuclear receptors are targeted by hydrophobic drugs because they contain hydrophobic pockets, which can easily bind these small hydrophobic molecules.
